Year in Music '23

Similarly to last year, here am I again to share with you some statistics about my music listening habits. A few weeks ago, I also published my Spotify Wrapped, but since I do not trust it completely, here am I again, with the full data from Last.fm.

Firstly, some quick statistics: in 2023, I scrobbled 19 256 times, with an average of 52 scrobbles per day. In total, I listened to 42 days, 7 hours of music. My most popular genres, from the most popular to the least popular, are pop, electronic, indie, dutch, rock and dance. I noticed I listened to less music according to Last.fm. However, I’ve also listened to way more physical media, which is not tracked.

🎤 Artists

This year, there’s quite a change on my top artists. My top 10 is now dominated by Dutch artists, namely Froukje, Merol, S10 and Eefje de Visser. This clearly shows that I’ve been putting some effort in listening to Dutch artists, in hopes I can learn quicker. They’re also quite good, and I definitely recommend.

💿 Albums

Unsurprisingly, most of my top albums are also from my top artists. In opposition to last year, there isn’t a great discrepancy between the top 1 and the remaining ones. I still want to, again, highly recommend RAYE. It’s also nice to see that Marina is still on my top 10 after 3 years. I do hope she releases some new music at some point this year.

🎵 Songs

Song-wise, I still believe in what I said last year: it’s not extremely interesting to see. However, the data is here, and, Unsurprisingly, my top 50 songs come out of my top artists.

🎫 Concerts

Last year marked the time I went to my first real concert. This year followed very nicely. I saw quite a few artists live, namely Rina Sawayama, Caroline Polacheck, Pieter de Graaf, RAYE (as a pre-show), SZA and Chappell Roan. I really wished I had managed to get a ticket to RAYE’s actual concert, but not even TicketSwap helped me with that one.

🎁 Spotify Wrapped

As I expected from the earliness of Spotify Wrapped, it did not fully paint the picture of 2023. There were some mistakes. Firstly, my top song was not Slapeloosheid, but Onbezonnen. Also, my top artist wasn’t RAYE, but Froukje. Nevertheless, minimally accurate, except for the last month and a half.

I’m curious to see how’s it going to go for 2024. Maybe I should find some way to automatically track to my physical listenings? It is possible to do manually, but that’s a bit of work that I don’t think I want to take.
